Well, tonight was my first night back in practice after an absence that was far too long. Hell, an absence that never should have happened in the first place.
Amity was so happy when I told her I was going back. She didn't know, and I intentionally surprised her.
Before leaving the house, I shaved my head, sewed up a tear in the knee of my gi and took an inventory of all of my clothes, books & equipment to make sure I didn't forget anything.
I didn't have dinner before I left because I didn't want to be late, and I also didn't want to exercise on a full stomach. Amity adn Lolita didn't mind. I think they were just happy that I was going again.
As I drove to the dojo, I was reviewing my fundamental Japanese terms in my head to make sure I didn't forget anything. Everything was still there and I took this as a good omen.
When I arrived at the dojo, Stan and Brooklyn ( a newer girl I had never met before ) were there getting everything setup. Stan informed me that Dr. Holt was in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas training military personal, and would be back on Saturday. That meant that unless someone more senior than myself showed up, I would be teaching the class.
Others that showed up were Dave, Matt, & "tall" Stan.
For warmups we did every roll and breakfall in our curriculum as well as some Tai-Sabaki.
After that I had the students break into two groups and work on kyu level practice.
I have to say, without being too prideful, that I hadn't lost anything. I was able to move and respond just as well as I had in my prime. I can't express how different it is to finally have those stupid chemicals, and their horrible influence, out of my veins. I didn't feel winded or fatigued or uncomfortable or anything. I felt great. Other than my thighs are a little sore from being out of practice of being in Katae Ichimonji no Kamae.
Looking forward to Wednesday. I can hardly wait.
